Electricity consumption in Ukraine declined slightly due to warm weather, which helped avoid potential shortages despite high overall consumption

In Ukraine today, due to warming, the level of electricity consumption has slightly decreased, and no shortage is expected. The day before, emergency aid was received from Romania and Poland to cover the deficit in the power system, NPC Ukrenergo reported on Tuesday, UNN writes.

Today, due to warming, the level of consumption has slightly decreased, no deficit is expected

- Ukrenergo reported in Telegram.

But, despite the decline, consumption is reportedly still high, which puts additional strain on the power system. Ukrainians were urged to consume electricity sparingly.

Yesterday, December 11, "consumption was again at a record high," as stated. "The daily maximum consumption was in the morning and was only 0.4% short of the record figure for this heating season on December 7," the statement said.

Generation

"As of this morning, three units at thermal power plants and one at a combined heat and power plant have returned to operation. However, the situation remains difficult. Repairs are underway at some units of thermal power plants, and solar power plants cannot generate electricity due to cloudy weather," the NPC noted.

Emergency aid

Yesterday, December 11, to compensate for the deficit in the power system caused by insufficient generation, Ukrenergo was reportedly forced to attract emergency aid from Romania and Poland.

"At the same time, no consumption limits were introduced, no outage schedules were introduced and are not forecasted," Ukrenergo noted.

Exports/imports

There are no exports today. Electricity is imported in the morning and evening hours from Slovakia and Romania, according to the NPC.

Accidents and blackouts

"The capacity of Ukrenergo's high-voltage networks is sufficient to cover the existing demand," the NPC said.

Yesterday, a protection action reportedly shut down equipment at a high-voltage substation in the western region. The reason was a crane boom blocking a high-voltage line, which triggered automatic protection. Power supply to consumers was restored in 10 minutes.

As of the morning of December 12, 193 settlements in Dnipropetrovs'k, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Ternopil regions were reportedly without power due to the weather.

Due to hostilities and other reasons, 432 settlements remain without electricity. The shelling has caused new damage to the power company networks in Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions. Emergency repair works are carried out depending on the security situation and with the permission of the military.
