As a result of a massive attack on Kyiv, a humanitarian warehouse of the Ukrainian Red Cross was destroyed: 320,000 units of humanitarian cargo and equipment worth over UAH 79 million were lost. This was reported by the URC, writes UNN.
Details
At the time of the Russian attack on the capital, the rented warehouse contained humanitarian cargo necessary for emergency response to the consequences of emergencies, ensuring the operation of medical facilities, and providing life-saving assistance to hundreds of thousands of people from the most vulnerable categories of the population.
Namely, critically important equipment, including generators, heat pumps, medical equipment (medical stretchers, defibrillators, ultrasound diagnostic devices, patient monitors), etc. A significant part of this cargo was delivered to Ukraine through the European Civil Protection Mechanism to strengthen the country's preparedness for emergencies.
Among the destroyed supplies was also a strategic reserve of humanitarian aid, formed for emergency response to the consequences of shelling, fires, evacuations, and other crisis situations. It included blankets, bed linen sets, hygiene kits, tarpaulins, film for emergency covering of damaged windows, sleeping sets, and other essential items used to help people in the first hours after emergencies.
The destroyed warehouse was one of the key logistics centers of the Ukrainian Red Cross. It was from here that the implementation of humanitarian projects aimed at supporting the population was ensured.
Also, as a result of the strike, a cargo vehicle used for delivering humanitarian aid was damaged.
The destruction of the warehouse caused not only significant material damage. It is a blow to the humanitarian infrastructure, on which the timely assistance to thousands of people affected by the war depends.
