Disney Entertainment cited the lack of time as the reason for excluding the Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol from the shortened international TV version of the Oscars.

Representatives of Disney Entertainment explained why they did not include the award ceremony for 20 Days in Mariupol in the shortened international TV version of the Oscars. The company referred primarily to time constraints. This was reported by the company to the Voice of America, according to UNN.

Details

The company said that certain categories and parts of the show could not be included in the 90-minute version for the international audience due to time constraints. According to Disney Entertainment representatives, the choice of nominations for the shortened version was determined in advance - during the planning process several weeks ago.

"However, a summary of all the missed winners, including 20 Days in Mariupol, is included in the abridged version," Disney Entertainment said.

The company added that the license to show both the full ceremony live and an alternative 90-minute version of the show in Ukraine was granted to Suspilne. Disney Entertainment said that it had asked Suspilne about the form in which the ceremony was broadcast in Ukraine.

Context

Earlier, Suspilne TV reportedthat in the shortened international TV version of the Oscars, the organizers cut out the Best Feature Documentary nomination, in which the Ukrainian film 20 Days in Mariupol won.

The Suspilne team has expressed its indignation to the organizers of this year's award, The Walt Disney Company Limited, said Lukian Galkin, executive producer of the Suspilne Culture TV channel: "Mstislav Chernov's powerful speech emphasized the unity between Ukraine and the world - it is all the more disappointing to see this episode full of truth and power excluded from the version distributed to the global Oscar licensees. Last year, a shortened version of the same nomination, in which a documentary about Navalny won, was included, as was a political speech by his wife Yulia Navalnaya, who accepted this seemingly apolitical award. We hope that the organizers of the award will listen to our protest.
