The deterioration of air quality in Kyiv is caused by abnormal heat, fires after the russian attack, and lack of wind; Kyiv residents are recommended to close windows and limit time outdoors, reported the Kyiv City State Administration on Friday, UNN reports.
Details
"As of 9:30 a.m. on July 3, temporary deterioration of air quality is observed in Kyiv," the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Kyiv City State Administration reports.
According to the city's monitoring system, increased concentrations of ground-level ozone and suspended particles (dust) are recorded.
The elevated ozone level is caused by abnormally hot weather, which contributes to its formation in the ground layer of the atmosphere. At the same time, due to fires caused by the enemy attack on the night of July 2 and temperature inversion (lack of wind), pollutants have not dispersed in the atmosphere. They have accumulated in the ground-level air layer, leading to a temporary deterioration of its quality and an increase in the concentration of combustion products and fine particulate matter
This, as reported, may negatively affect health, primarily of people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Until air quality improves, experts recommend:
- close windows;
- limit prolonged time outdoors;
- maintain water balance and drink enough water;
- if an air purifier is available, turn it on to maximum operation mode.
The Kyiv City State Administration noted that the air quality index reflects the current state and may change quickly depending on the development of the fire situation.
