The case of the officer who gave grenades to the deceased assistant to the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has been transferred to court. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the OGP, the specialized defense prosecutor's office in the Central Region has sent an indictment to the court over the death of Gennadiy Chastyakov, who was an assistant to the former commander-in-chief.
The serviceman was finally charged with misappropriation and sale of ammunition, negligent homicide, causing grievous bodily harm by negligence and illegal handling of weapons (Article 410(4), Article 119(1), Article 128, Article 263(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)
Investigators found that on November 6, 2023, the victim was celebrating his birthday. One of the gifts was a box. It contained, among other things, 6 combat grenades donated by a fellow soldier, which the latter received in a military unit while performing his military service.
One of the grenades was picked up by the serviceman's son. Taking the ammunition away from the child, the officer pulled the ring, which triggered the explosion.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces major died on the spot. His 13-year-old son was hospitalized with serious injuries, and his 11-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries.
Law enforcement officers seized 5 more similar grenades at the scene.
