Law enforcement officers prevented the contract killing of a key witness in the case of a USD 1 million bribe to an SBU officer . The organizer of the criminal group, while in jail, tried to hire a killer for $50,000 to eliminate the witness. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU.
In the spring of 2024, a group of raiders offered a Ukrainian special service officer USD 1 million. In an attempt to bribe the official, the criminals hoped for his help in the raider seizure of a mining company in Vinnytsia region. The colonel of the Ukrainian special service reported the “offer” to his superiors, after which the defendants were detained.
However, while in the pre-trial detention center, the organizer of the criminal group planned the murder of the main witness in the case. In this way, he tried to avoid punishment in court
To commit the crime, the dealer started looking for a killer. To do this, he asked for help from the arrested criminals who were in the pre-trial detention center with him and had relevant connections on the outside. After the crime was committed, the customer guaranteed to pay the killer USD 50 thousand.
Law enforcement officers exposed the offender's plans, documented his illegal activities and blocked him at the stage of preparation for the contract killing.
At present, under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office, the raider was served a new notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 27, Part 1 of Art. 14, paras. 8, 11, 12 of Part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation to commit a contract murder).
The SBU reminded that his actions were previously classified under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offer, promise or provision of an unlawful benefit to an official).
