Zoran Milanovic received almost half of the votes in the first round of the Croatian presidential election. The second round will be held on January 12, as no candidate has gained an absolute majority.

In Croatia , after counting 100% of the votes in the first round of the presidential election, the country's head of state Zoran Milanovic won . UNN reports this with reference to the data of the State Election Commission.

Details

Croatia's incumbent President Zoran Milanovic, a critic of NATO and the EU, won the first round of presidential elections on Sunday with 49.09 percent support.

Dragan Primorac  of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union party, who came in second, garnered 19.35 percent.

Since none of the candidates gained an absolute majority, Croatia will hold a second round on January 12.

Addendum

As Politico wrote, during his election campaign, President Milanovic sought to capitalize on a series of scandals that saw more than 30 ministers from the prime minister's party resign or be fired over corruption during Andrej Plenkovic's mandate.

He also criticized Plenković for his pro-European stance, calling him "an errand boy" for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and called immigration Croatia's main problem.
