Ukraine's membership in NATO may follow the cessation of hostilities in our country. This was stated on Sunday, December 22, by Michael Carpenter , Director for European Affairs at the US National Security Council, in an interview broadcast during a telethon, UNN reports.

According to him, the highest guarantee of security for Ukraine is membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Article 5 is the most reliable, safest form of guarantee that states can have. Obtaining it is vital for Ukraine,
He added that as long as Ukraine is in the middle of a hot phase of war, it will be difficult to achieve this. And for our country to become a part of NATO, it will take a lot of political will from all 32 member states.
At the same time, Carpenter supported the idea of a European military mission that would guarantee Ukraine that Russia would not go further if a peace agreement is signed.
As I understand it, there are a number of European countries that will be discussing this very concept. So, in my opinion, it makes sense to have several EU countries invest in Ukraine's success and help stabilize the situation,
