Two people sustained serious injuries, ANSA agency reports, citing the Mayor of Modena, Massimo Mezzetti. According to him, the motives of the 30-year-old man, who struck pedestrians at high speed, remain unclear.
Mezzetti said the driver steered the car onto the sidewalk, "hit a cyclist, and then crashed into a woman, causing her severe injuries and crushing both her legs." After that, the man was seen with a knife in his hand, but he did not have time to attack anyone.
"We need to understand what is behind this act... If it turns out that this was a targeted terrorist attack, the situation will become even more serious," said the Mayor of Modena.
