No one was injured in the accident, and the plane landed in Denver. There were 179 passengers and seven crew members on board.
United Airlines will investigate the accident. The circumstances of the incident will also be examined by the US Federal Aviation Administration, ABC TV channel reports.
Boeing told Reuters that it discontinued production of the 757 in 2004.
