The demolition of the villa of Joseph Goebbels, one of Adolf Hitler's closest confidants, is being discussed in the Berlin parliament. Bild writes about it and notes that Russian propaganda spread the fake that the villa was allegedly bought by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UNN reports.

Details

The mansion of 30 living and 40 service rooms with a bunker and a cinema is located near Lake Bogensee, 15 km north of Berlin. It was called Joseph Goebbels' "love nest" because he spent time there with his mistresses. During the GDR, a school of the Free German Youth Union (FDJ, analogous to the Pioneer Youth in the USSR) was set up nearby. Since 2000, the entire complex has been standing idle. Its maintenance costs 200-300 thousand euros annually, not counting one-time expenses of several million.

According to media reports, this money is allocated from the Berlin budget. Therefore, Sven Heinemann of the German Chamber of Deputies (Parliament) demanded that the entire complex be demolished and planted with forest. According to the legislator, if the buildings are really valuable, they should be bought for 1 euro and maintained by the authorities of Germany, the federal state of Brandenburg, or the local district of Barnim. The head of the district, Daniel Kurt, believes that the buildings have historical and architectural value, so they should be preserved as before.

Several attempts to find buyers for the complex near the Bohemian Sea were unsuccessful. This is also because its reconstruction would have required hundreds of millions of euros.

Bild reminds that in December 2023, Russian propaganda spread a fake that Goebbels' villa was allegedly bought by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian authorities have unequivocally denied this disinformation.
