The country's authorities fear that the death toll could rise as search operations continue, said Amadou Coulibaly.
Floods and landslides followed several days of heavy rains that began on Saturday.
According to the Minister of National Unity, Ms. Belmonde Dogo, some of the victims are from the municipalities of Attécoubé and Yopougon in Ivory Coast's economic capital, Abidjan.

Neighboring Ghana has also been affected by heavy rains.
At least 12 people have died there as a result of floods across much of the country, including the capital, Accra.
Ghana's meteorological agency has called on local residents to prepare for further rains in Accra this week.
