Armenia's CEC has completed the vote count, with Pashinyan's party garnering 49.81%. Due to the redistribution of mandates, it is projected to secure approximately 60% of the seats in parliament.

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia has completed the counting of ballots in the regular parliamentary elections; the "Civil Contract" party of the country's head of government, Nikol Pashinyan, is leading confidently, UNN reports, citing Radio Azatutyun.

Details

According to the preliminary results of the count of all ballots in the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on Sunday, the "Civil Contract" party, the "Strong Armenia" and "Armenia" blocs, and the "Prosperous Armenia" party have cleared the electoral threshold.

"Civil Contract" received 727,160 votes or 49.81%, "Strong Armenia" - 340,062 votes or 23.29%, "Armenia" - 145,097 votes or 9.94%, and "Prosperous Armenia" - 58,368 votes or 4%.

Other political forces did not cross the threshold for representation in the National Assembly (parliament) of the country.

Meanwhile, news.am claims that currently, based on the results summarized by the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, as well as the application of a number of calculations and formulas (distribution of national minority mandates, dispersion of votes), the mandate picture of the National Assembly looks as follows: 61 mandates for the "Civil Contract" party, 28 mandates for the "Strong Armenia" bloc, 11 mandates for the "Armenia" bloc, and 5 mandates for the "Prosperous Armenia" party.

"Under such an arithmetic scheme, the 'Civil Contract' party does not have enough votes to hold a three-fifths (3/5) majority," notes news.am.

At the same time, the BBC points out that, taking into account the specifics of Armenia's electoral system, the results provided by the CEC mean that Pashinyan's party receives a "confident" majority in parliament. As explained, after the results are tallied, the votes of parties that did not cross the 4% threshold are divided among those that entered parliament in such a way that the higher the percentage a political force received, the larger the share of redistributed votes it gets. As a result, even if "Civil Contract" does not reach 50% in absolute figures, the recount will result in it receiving about 60% of the seats in the Armenian parliament, the publication indicates.
