The Nizhny Novgorod refinery – the NORSI plant – has suspended operations indefinitely. As Reuters writes, this plant is the second largest producer of gasoline, reports UNN.
The Nizhny Novgorod refinery – Russia's fourth largest oil refinery and second largest gasoline producer – suspended operations on Wednesday after a Ukrainian drone attack.
Reuters sources reported that the attack damaged the CDU-5 primary processing unit at the NORSI plant. The unit's capacity is 12,000 metric tons per day, which is approximately a quarter of the plant's total production capacity.
At the same time, the refinery may use other units to resume operations in the near future.
The St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) suspended sales of diesel fuel and gasoline from NORSI as of Wednesday.
Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Gleb Nikitin reported on the Telegram messenger on Wednesday that an industrial facility was damaged by falling drone debris and that two people were killed. He did not name which facility he was referring to.
The refinery is located near Kstovo in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, approximately 450 km east of Moscow.
The plant can process about 15 million tons of crude oil per year and produce about 5 million tons of gasoline, over 5 million tons of diesel fuel, 2 million tons of fuel oil, and about 500,000 tons of bitumen.

Earlier it was reported that the Moscow refinery, which was attacked twice by Ukrainian FP-1 drones manufactured by Fire Point, will not be able to function for at least another six months.
According to media reports, Russia is considering a ban on diesel exports, and a fuel shortage is felt across the country due to regular strikes on oil refining facilities. Thus, in addition to the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod refineries, facilities were hit in, among other places, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Ryazan Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, and Tyumen.
