At the Krakivets checkpoint, border guards found a Russian-made icon of the Kazan Mother of God. A 24-year-old man tried to import it from the Netherlands to Kyiv.

An attempt was made to import an icon of the Mother of God of Kazan made in Russia into Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service reported on Monday, UNN reports.

As stated, border guards together with customs officers found an icon of the Mother of God of Kazan at the Krakivets checkpoint.

A 24-year-old native of Sumy region tried to smuggle the icon into Ukraine. The man allegedly picked up the icon in the Netherlands and was supposed to deliver it to Kyiv. The icon, measuring 55 by 115 cm, was found among personal belongings in the luggage compartment of a Mercedes.

Customs officers seized the find and drew up a report on violation of customs regulations.
