The Monaco police have identified the woman suspected of attempting to assassinate Ukrainian oligarch Vadym Yermolaiev, an attack that left the businessman, his partner, and his teenage son seriously injured. The perpetrator was a woman who disguised herself in men's clothing. This is reported by BFMTV, according to UNN.
Details
As the publication writes, the person suspected of leaving the booby-trapped bag is actually a woman.
"According to our information, based on the data collected during the investigation, 'this person is likely disguising themselves to appear as a man,' reads an internal memo from the Monaco police.
Also, according to the publication, the person who left the bag with explosives at the foot of the building surveyed the area several times on the same day the events occurred. Shortly before 9:00 PM that Monday, the suspect spotted the Ukrainian family in the area near Place de Moulins and decided to follow them.
The publication adds that the suspect was located in one of the EU countries.
Recall
On June 30, an explosion occurred in a residential building in Monaco, injuring three people: Vadym Yermolaiev, his common-law wife, and their 13-year-old son (the latter two are citizens of Ukraine). According to media reports, all three are in the hospital; the condition of Yermolaiev and his wife is assessed as serious.
It later became known that the suspect fled to France. The Monaco prosecutor's office classified this explosion as an attempted murder, not a terrorist act.
Media reported a possible connection between the Yermolaiev family and international networks of fraudulent call centers in Dnipro. This refers to telephone fraud schemes which, according to investigations in various countries, operated under the guise of investment platforms and support services.
Vadym Yermolaiev is the founder of the Alef corporation and one of the most prominent developers and industrialists in Ukraine. His business interests encompass real estate, production of building materials, the agricultural sector, mining, logistics, and the alcohol industry. In 2019, the businessman renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and obtained citizenship of Cyprus. He also likely holds Israeli citizenship.
The Office of the Prosecutor General confirmed the opening of criminal proceedings for the attempted murder of businessman Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco, in which his common-law wife and son were also injured.
