To choose the word of the year 2024, lexicographers Dictionary.com as indicated, a large amount of data was analyzed, including news headlines that deserve coverage, Social Media Trends, search engine results, etc., to identify words that influenced conversations online and in the real world.
"In 2024, the use of the word demure increased rapidly. From January to the end of August, the use of the term in digital web media alone increased by almost 1,200%. This dramatic increase is mainly due to the popularization on TikTok by Jools Lebron creator of the phrase "very demure, very mindful" in a series of videos posted on the platform in early August.
"While the term 'demure' has traditionally been used to describe those who are reserved, silent, or Humble, a new usage has spread through social media - one that is used to describe a refined and sophisticated appearance or behavior in various contexts, such as at work or on a plane," the dictionary noted.
