Today, on Christmas Eve, the city's main four-meter Christmas didukh was installed in the center of Lviv, the Lviv City Council reported on Tuesday, UNN reported.
Details
The Christmas symbol was solemnly placed on Angels Square, where it will remain until the end of the holidays.
Traditionally, the removal of the didukh was accompanied by a procession and caroling. The procession with the participation of children, military personnel, honorable Lviv residents, government officials, and clergy went from Rynok Square, the city's shopping center, to Angels Square. Participants carried small didukhs, which complemented the main structure and completed the city's Christmas didukh. During the procession, the Dudaryk choir and the Dzherel band sang well-known carols so that Lviv residents and visitors could sing along.
The event began with a minute of silence. Then Captain Bohdan Ben of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine gave a speech for all those present. Afterwards, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi added one last element to the didukh and wished Lviv residents a Merry Christmas.
The Kotsiuk family once made the main didukh for the city. Every year for the holidays, it is renewed with fresh sheaves of wheat by the craftsmen of Shevchenkivskyi Hai.
It is almost 4 meters high. It consists of several dozen small grandfathers.
Addendum
The Christmas didukh in the center of Lviv first appeared in 2009. Since then, this tradition has become an integral part of the city's celebrations. Didukh symbolizes prosperity, unity, and the continuation of Ukrainian traditions.
