11 Russian servicemen have been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for the execution of six unarmed civilians during the occupation of the Kyiv region. The people were killed in two cars near "Dobropark" and in the village of Motyzhyn in the first days of the full-scale invasion. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, UNN writes.
Following the public prosecution by prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the court found servicemen of the armed forces of the Russian Federation guilty of a war crime combined with intentional murder
Prosecutors proved that on February 27, 2022, near "Dobropark," Russian servicemen opened targeted fire on an Opel Zafira carrying three unarmed men. All of them were killed.
On March 3, a Peugeot 206 carrying three civilians was traveling toward the occupiers' combat vehicle in Motyzhyn. The driver saw the military equipment and stopped the car. Despite this, the Russian servicemen opened targeted fire without warning. All three people were killed.
None of the six civilians took part in hostilities or posed a threat to the Russian military.
The court agreed with the arguments of the prosecution: intentional attacks on civilians constitute a gross violation of the norms of international humanitarian law.
The convicted persons' actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
