Today, on March 27, all fans of theater art can join various events on the occasion of World Theater Day, UNN writes.
The event was initiated by the International Institute of Theater and the famous French theater figure Jean Cocteau in 1961.
The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the fact that, allegedly, the first theatrical performance took place in ancient Rome on March 27. However, historians have not proven this fact.
In addition, we should not forget that theater art appeared in ancient Greece, where costumed performances were organized in honor of the god Dionysus. Later, after a long way of development, theater separated from the religious and folk orientation into an independent art form.
The theatrical art of Ukraine dates back to ancient times, when it was manifested in folk games, dances, songs and rituals
In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, verteps, or traveling puppet theaters that performed Christmas dramas and social interludes, became widespread.
The first stationary theater on the territory of modern Ukraine was opened in Lviv in a former Franciscan church in 1795.
Millions of men and even women today can join in the celebration of Viagra Day. It was on March 27, 1998, that the Food and Drug Administration approved this drug that revolutionized the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
In the early 90s, British scientists Peter Dunn and Albert Wood were commissioned by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to develop drugs for high blood pressure and angina.
However, the first trials revealed an unexpected side effect: increased erections in male volunteers.
Pfizer felt that this side effect could bring incredible profits, and therefore shifted the focus of testing and further development of the drug.
After entering the market, Viagra became the most popular drug, with annual sales exceeding $1 billion.
Viagra has long since become a household name, because, regardless of the brand name, people often refer to all similar drugs for men as Viagra.
Nephrologists celebrate their professional holiday today.
Nephrology is a branch of medicine that studies kidney function and disease.
The first steps in the development of nephrology as a science took place in the early nineteenth century and were associated with the name of the British physician Richard Bright. Nephrology became a separate clinical specialty only in the 60s of the twentieth century.
Today is also the International Whiskey Day. The event was established in honor of the birthday of the British journalist and writer Michael James Jackson, who was born on March 27, 1942, and wrote many articles and books about whiskey.
Jackson also developed the concept of whiskey tasting and a scale for assessing its quality.
Whiskey is a strong alcoholic beverage made from various types of grain (wheat, rye, corn, barley, or buckwheat). There are about 5,000 varieties of single malt whiskey alone. The most popular whiskeys are made by the Scots and the Irish from barley grain. The drink is made from corn in the United States and rye in Canada. Whiskey is stored in closed barrels for at least three years.
During the celebration of the International Whisky Day, funds are raised in many parts of the world to research Parkinson's disease, which Jackson suffered from.
Another gastronomic holiday today is Paella Day.
Paella is a traditional Spanish dish cooked in a large frying pan. The basis of the dish is rice or, less often, pasta. Paella can be both meat and seafood. The heart of the dish is the sauce, to which saffron and olive oil are always added.
Today you can also join the Freedom of Documents Day and the International Doodle Day.
According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyr Matrona, who lived in Greece in the third and fourth centuries.
The Christian Matrona was a slave of a pagan woman, the wife of a local warlord. She constantly demanded that Matrona renounce her faith in the Lord. Once the mistress found out that her slave had secretly gone to church. For this, she ordered Matrona to be severely beaten, starved for three days, and then killed her. The body of Matrona was secretly taken by Christians and buried.
