Dmytro Lubinets met with Ahmed Hussain to discuss cooperation on the return of abducted Ukrainian children. Canada will allocate $10 million for the return and reintegration of children through UNICEF in Ukraine.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets met with the Minister of International Development of Canada Ahmed Hussain. They discussed possible areas of cooperation, reports UNN.

“At the Child Rights Protection Center, I met with Ahmed Hussain, Minister of International Development of Canada. First of all, he spoke about the implementation of paragraph 4 of the Peace Formula and Ukraine's work on the return of Ukrainian children, civilians, and prisoners of war. Ahmed Hussen was interested in the key areas of work of the Ombudsperson's Office,” Lubinets wrote.

According to him, Hussen also asked several questions about the abduction of Ukrainian children by the occupiers, the conditions of civilian hostages and prisoners of war in Russian detention centers.

“During the meeting, we discussed possible areas of cooperation. Let me remind you that Ukraine and Canada already have a lot of effective cooperation. For example, Canada is a co-chair of the working group on paragraph 4 of the Peace Formula. Also, together with Canada, we have created the International Coalition of Countries for the Return of Ukrainian Children, which includes 40 countries. At the same time, I would like to emphasize that we have to implement other concrete steps: to continue working on the return of children and their proper reintegration and rehabilitation,” said Lubinets.

In particular, Ahmed Hussen announced that Canada is providing Ukraine with $10 million for the return and reintegration of Ukrainian children. The funds will be directly transferred to UNICEF in Ukraine.

“For his part, the UNICEF Representative in Ukraine noted that this support is primarily needed to protect the rights of the most vulnerable children, in particular those who are being helped with rehabilitation measures at the Child Protection Center,” Lubinets said.
