Verkhovna Rada plans to consider the draft law on combating domestic violence in the first reading

The Verkhovna Rada plans to consider a bill to improve the mechanism for preventing and combating domestic and gender-based violence in accordance with the Istanbul Convention.

The Verkhovna Rada plans to consider in the first reading a European integration bill on improving the mechanism for preventing and combating domestic violence and gender-based violence at one of its next meetings. UNN reports  with reference to the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada meeting.

Thus, Draft Law No. 10249  proposes to bring national legislation in line with the Istanbul Convention:

-       to exclude cases of domestic and gender-based violence from the scope of mediation (amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Mediation");

-       to supplement the list of grounds on which a divorce action may be brought during the wife's pregnancy and within one year after the child's birth, as well as to prevent the use of reconciliation measures in cases where one of the spouses has committed domestic violence;

-       to amend the list of entities implementing measures to prevent and combat gender-based violence;

-       to amend the list of entities implementing measures in the field of preventing and combating domestic violence;

-       to distinguish between the powers of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the National Social Service Service of Ukraine in the field of prevention and combating domestic and gender-based violence;

-       replace the name "State Institution "Call Center for Prevention and Counteraction to Domestic Violence, Gender-Based Violence and Violence against Children" (hereinafter referred to as the Call Center) with the name "Specialized Hotline for Countering Trafficking in Human Beings, preventing and combating domestic violence, gender-based violence, including sexual violence related to the armed conflict, and violence against children".

Addendum

In March of this year, the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy supported as a basis the European integration bill on improving the mechanism for preventing and combating domestic and gender-based violence.
