U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to attend in an OSCE ministerial meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which is being boycotted by the of Ukraine and the Baltic states. However, a meeting between Blinken and Lavrov is not planned. This was reported to journalists on Tuesday, November 28, by a representative of the of the US Department of State, quoted by Voice of America, informs UNN.
We respect the ability of each country to decide whether or not to participate. We believe that this is a useful forum for engaging with OSCE members, and we look forward to attending
When asked what message the US Secretary of State of State is traveling to this meeting, the representative of the State Department spokesperson said:
"I think the OSCE is a really important institution to address political and human rights issues in Europe. And so the U.S. Secretary of State is going to be there in solidarity with with the North Macedonians, who have had a difficult year and have done a wonderful job, and also to to express solidarity with other OSCE members," the diplomat said.
When asked about the possibility of any of any meeting between Blinken and Lavrov, the official replied: "We do not expect this. We do not expect that."
