Today, a combined unit of Ukrainian rescuers arrived at the Gironde department to assist in extinguishing a massive forest fire, UNN reports, citing the State Emergency Service.

At the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 33), a working meeting was held between the Ukrainian team and the service's leadership, as well as representatives of the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC). Deputy Chief for Operational Activities of SDIS 33, Aurélien Petit, reported that the fire area was about 42 thousand hectares, with a perimeter reaching 240 kilometers.

The French side noted that Ukrainian specialists will work in the most challenging areas, as their practical experience is unique and highly valued by partners. Currently, Ukraine represents the largest international team among all involved countries.
Immediately after the meeting, the Ukrainian combined unit headed directly to the disaster area. Our specialists conducted a reconnaissance of the terrain, assessed the operational situation, and inspected specific locations where they will begin tasks of extinguishing the fire and containing the flames.
