In June, Ukrainian air defense intercepted almost 5,300 out of 6,000 enemy drones and missiles. Ballistic missiles remain the most difficult to shoot down, with 40% destroyed.

During the massive attacks in June 2026, the Russians used nearly 6,000 drones and missiles against Ukraine. In May, this figure was over 8,300. Throughout June, Ukrainian air defense intercepted almost 5,300 means of air attack. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, writes UNN.

In particular, 90% of drones of the "Shahed", "Gerbera", "Italmas" type, etc., 40% of ballistic missiles, and 89.4% of other types of missiles were shot down

- the statement reads.

The overall interception rate of aerial targets during massive enemy strikes was 89%.

The largest strikes by Russian drones and missiles in June

On the night of June 2, during a multi-hour attack, the enemy used 8 "Zircon" anti-ship missiles, 33 "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, 32 Kh-101 and "Kalibr" missiles, as well as over 650 attack drones.

The enemy tried to overload the air defense as much as possible, but Ukrainian forces operated with high efficiency: they shot down 92% of UAVs and 90% of cruise missiles. Of the most difficult targets to intercept – ballistic missiles – 11 out of 41 were shot down.

The enemy attack on the night of June 15 was approximately the same scale: 6 "Zircon" anti-ship missiles, 34 "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, 30 Kh-101/"Iskander-K" cruise missiles, and 611 attack drones were used.

Despite the complexity of the massive air attack, half of the ballistic missiles, 95% of the drones, and all cruise missiles launched against Ukraine were intercepted.

The ministry notes that ballistic missiles remain the greatest threat. Their interception requires modern missile defense systems like the Patriot, of which there is a limited number in the world. Ukraine, together with international partners, is systematically working to expand air defense capabilities – from acquiring new systems and interceptor missiles to developing other elements of layered defense.

One of the key elements of this system is modern combat aviation. Therefore, in June, an agreement was signed for the purchase of 16 Swedish Gripen E fighters, which will strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities and help more effectively counter Russian air attacks.
