The United States is considering the earliest possible cancellation of exemptions currently in effect under sanctions against the Russian oil industry. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, NDTV reports, according to UNN.
"We would like to cancel them as soon as possible, as the primary policy of our country is to impose sanctions against Russian oil. These are temporary exemptions aimed at expanding global supplies,"
In March, the US granted a sanctions exemption for the purchase of Russian oil and extended it twice. The latest extension was granted on May 17 for one month.
As a reminder,
The administration of US President Donald Trump extended the exemptions that allow certain countries to purchase Russian oil and petroleum products despite sanctions.
