Yesterday, November 13, a new US air defense base was officially opened near the town of Redzikowo in Poland. At the opening, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the United States is the guarantor of their security. UNN writes about this with reference to Reuters.
Details
On Wednesday, the United States opened a new air defense base in northern Poland. Poland's president said that this event confirms the country's security as a NATO member, despite the war waged by Russia in neighboring Ukraine. The base, located in the town of Redzikowo near the Baltic Sea, has been under construction since the 2000s.
Amid concerns among some NATO members after Donald Trump's election victory, Warsaw emphasized that the continuation of work at the base by subsequent US presidents demonstrates the resilience of Poland's military alliance with Washington, regardless of the change in the US administration.
The United States is a guarantor of Poland's security
In his opinion, the continued presence of American troops at the base emphasizes that Poland, which was a communist state until 1989, is no longer under Russian influence.
On Wednesday, the Kremlin said that the base is an attempt to deter Russia by moving American military infrastructure closer to Russia's borders.
The opening of the base came amid concerns among some NATO members after the election of Trump, who said he would not defend countries that do not invest enough in defense.
Poland, however, says it has nothing to fear, as it is one of the largest defense spenders in the Alliance relative to the size of its economy. In addition, President Duda, who belongs to a conservative political force, emphasizes his warm relationship with Trump.
Recall
Earlier it was reportedthat the Polish village of Redzikowo will have a missile shield base. It will also shoot down Russian missiles flying at Poland.
