Parliament adopted the law on viticulture and winemaking

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a European integration law on grapes and viticulture products. The document brings sectoral legislation in line with EU requirements and introduces new rules for the production and circulation of wine products.

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted in the second reading and in general the European integration bill on grapes and viticulture products. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Details

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted as a whole the draft law "On Grapes and Viticulture Products" No. 9139. The document was supported by 311 MPs.

"The main purpose of the law is to bring the norms of sectoral legislation in line with the requirements of international rules for the production of viticulture and winemaking products and the implementation of the provisions of EU regulations on viticulture and winemaking, oenological practices, production of flavored wine products, use and protection of geographical indications of wines, flavored wine products, and control in the field of viticulture and winemaking," the statement said.

It is noted that the law is intended to:

- to introduce requirements for the production and circulation of wines, viticulture and winemaking products, and flavored wine products with geographical indications similar to current rules in the EU;

- determine the mechanism for protecting geographical indications in Ukraine;

- introduce new terms and definitions in accordance with the categories of European legislation;

- create a unified state information system "Viticulture and Winemaking Register";

- provide for the possibility of state support for viticulture and winemaking;

- implement rules on labeling and presentation of wine products;

- establish the principles for conducting inspections of wine production from the grape bush to the final product, identify controlling institutions and their powers, and specify the sanctions imposed for violations of the requirements.

It is emphasized that it should come into force on January 1, 2026.
