The United Kingdom government has announced the selection of a picture for Christmas cards to be sent out by the Secretary of State for Scotland. The greeting will be accompanied by an image created by a 12-year-old Ukrainian girl. This is stated on the official website, according to UNN.
Details
According to Secretary of State Ian Murray, the golden-haired cherub next to the Christmas tree was painted by 12-year-old Amelia Marchenko, a native of Donetsk Oblast. The girl's family was forced to flee the war twice, first in 2014 and then in 2022. Amelia now lives in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh.
For the first time, the government office held a competition to create an image for a Christmas card. Children aged 5 to 16 who attend classes at the Ukrainian Community Center in Edinburgh could submit their artwork. Participants were asked to combine elements of Ukrainian and Scottish culture in their drawings.
Recall
The Scottish government is planning to ban the use of WhatsApp and other non-corporate messengers on work phones from spring 2024. The decision was made after an external audit and a scandal with deleted messages during the pandemic.
