The Office of the President expects the launch of the Special Tribunal for the Russian Federation's aggression in 2027. The creation of the mechanism in The Hague has already been supported by 36 countries and the European Union.

The Office of the President expects that the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the creation of which was supported by 36 countries and the EU, will begin its work as early as next year. This was reported by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Mudra on Facebook, according to UNN.

According to her, the conclusion of the agreement on the steering committee of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine became an important stage in the creation of a separate international mechanism of accountability for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

"For several years, Ukraine faced skepticism regarding the possibility of creating such a tribunal. Partners pointed to legal complexities, the political sensitivity of the issue, and the presence of various interests that could hinder the launch of the mechanism," noted the Deputy Head of the OP.

At the same time, according to her, the Ukrainian team of lawyers, diplomats, and parliamentarians continued to seek solutions even after difficult rounds of negotiations.

"Today we have done it — together," Mudra stated.

She emphasized that for the first time since the Nuremberg and Tokyo tribunals, a separate mechanism of accountability for waging an aggressive war is being created.

"Those who started it will be held accountable. This is already inevitable," she noted.

The Deputy Head of the OP added that the next stage will be the formation of the tribunal in The Hague. Specifically, this involves the selection of judges, defining the rules of operation, and the commencement of investigations.
