Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhyhyr held a working meeting with representatives of NATO Headquarters in Brussels and the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Defense. The parties discussed the results of an external assessment of the quality of the internal audit function of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and measures aimed at improving anti-corruption activities. In particular, Yuriy Dzhyhyr pointed out the main areas of work of the Audit Committee of the Ministry of Defense and discussed the results of cooperation between the Internal Audit Service and the Department for the Prevention and Detection of Corruption.
Joint efforts are aimed at improving the efficiency of resource management, preventing the illegal use of defense resources and reducing corruption risks.
Also, Colonel Serhiy Stepanyan, Acting Director of the Department for the Prevention and Detection of Corruption of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said that 174 control measures and 164 anti-corruption inspections were conducted during the second quarter of 2024.
According to him, 43 proceedings on possible corruption offenses were sent to law enforcement agencies, which prevented losses to the state in the amount of UAH 77.94 million.
Strengthening preventive measures to prevent corruption risks is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Defense. Cooperation of the MoD Audit Committee with the Internal Audit and Corruption Prevention and Detection Departments ensures compliance with the principles of integrity, efficiency and legality in the use of defense resources
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that this meeting was another step of the ministry in close cooperation with international partners to ensure transparency and efficiency in the defense sector.
