Russian saboteur detained in Kyiv for planning a series of arsons at Ukrzaliznytsia facilities

A saboteur who set fire to a relay cabinet of Ukrzaliznytsia on the instructions of Russian intelligence was detained in Kyiv. The attacker planned several more arson attacks on key facilities to disrupt the logistics of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Law enforcement officers detained a saboteur who, on the instructions of Russian intelligence, was preparing a series of arson attacks on strategic facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia in Kyiv and set fire to a relay cabinet. UNN reports with reference to the SBU press service.

Details

According to the SBU, the main targets of the enemy were relay cabinets along the main railway lines in the capital.

To commit sabotage, the occupiers engaged a local resident who was looking for quick money in Telegram channels and thus came to the attention of the aggressor.

To fulfill the enemy's task,  first agreed on the "arson target" with his supervisor, and then poured a flammable mixture on the technological equipment of Ukrzaliznytsia and set it on fire.

Then he filmed the fire with his phone camera to "report" to the Russian secret service.

The saboteur was detained in hot pursuit as a result of a special operation in Kyiv.

According to the available data, the attacker was to prepare several more arson attacks on key Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. In this way, the enemy hoped to damage the logistics of the Defense Forces

- the SBU said.

Based on the evidence collected, SBU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 28 and Part 2 Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

The saboteur is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
