The Russian army is considering several options for an offensive in northern Ukraine, including from the Bryansk region towards Chernihiv region. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview during a telethon, reports UNN.
Details
"We must consider all, even the worst-case scenarios. We know that Putin has tasked the Russian General Staff with calculating various options for an offensive operation, including from the territory of Belarus, with the aim of capturing Kyiv and other territories," Syrskyi said.
He noted that the Russian General Staff has calculated several courses of action. One of them is an offensive from the territory of Belarus. At the same time, according to Syrskyi, he does not believe that the leadership of Belarus will agree to provide its territory, as it did in 2022, for an offensive on northern Ukraine.
"The most likely option, and this is confirmed by several pieces of data, is a possible offensive action in the north from the territory of Russia, from the Bryansk region... Not towards Kyiv, but towards the Chernihiv region," Syrskyi added.
According to him, in this way the Russian Federation will try to penetrate deep into Ukrainian territory to force the redeployment of Ukrainian defenders from the main directions.
Reminder
On the border with Belarus, there is currently no recorded buildup of a group that could actually carry out an invasion of Ukraine. However, according to intelligence data, pressure from Russia on Belarus demanding more large-scale participation in the war against Ukraine persists.
