In 2023, a small increase in electricity tariffs provided an additional 3 GW of capacity, which allowed the system to stabilize and safely pass the heating season. Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk said this during a telethon, a correspondent of UNN reports.
It should be noted that the slight increase in the tariff that took place in 2023 added 3 GW to the system, which made it possible to safely and steadily pass the heating season
He noted that saving a significant amount of electricity was possible not only due to more economical electricity consumption by households caused by tariff increases, but also due to a "combination of actions.
"This is a set of actions. First of all, it was possible to balance the economic situation of the electricity market participants, so they had the financial capacity to take measures to rebuild, prepare for the heating season, and carry out a proper repair campaign, including repairing damaged equipment from previous shelling. Thus, the amount of equipment that was ready for the heating season was an additional 3 GW, which allowed us to balance the system between supply and demand," said Kolisnyk.
