By voting for the law on deprivation of state awards, the Verkhovna Rada created a legislative conflict by abolishing the provision on confiscation of property from corrupt officials. The government is already working to bring this provision back. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration - Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna in a conversation with journalists, UNN reports.

"Of course, we were talking about two priority laws that were adopted quite quickly. One after the other, and we are working to get this article back. Let's just say that it was a technical ricochet rather than a political element of the article's exclusion," Stefanishyna said.

Addendum

On October 31, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law allowing plea bargaining in corruption cases. The document provides for leniency in exchange for the disclosure of accomplices and compensation for damages.

The law was supplemented by Article 77 of the Criminal Code, according to which, in case of a deal with the investigation (in corruption crimes), a punishment in the form of confiscation of property may be imposed.

In November, the Rada passed a draft law on depriving state awards for propaganda of the aggressor state. This draft law rewrites Article 77 without the part about the possibility of confiscating corrupt officials' property.
