President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda accepted the resignation of Ingrida Šimonytė's government on June 23 and appointed her as acting prime minister – for the period until a new government is appointed after the coalition is reshuffled. This is reported by LRT, writes UNN.
Details
Ingrida Šimonytė is to be replaced as prime minister by the chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Mindaugas Sinkevičius. This is provided for in the agreement between the Social Democrats, the Democrats, and the "Farmers" on a new ruling majority.
The president will meet with him on Wednesday, and on Thursday he is expected to submit Sinkevičius's candidacy to the Seimas for approval.
After the Seimas approves the candidacy of the new prime minister, he must, within no more than 15 days, submit to parliament the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, agreed with the president, and the government program, which must also be approved by the Seimas.
The new ruling majority was formed after the Social Democrats terminated their agreement with the "Dawn of Neman" party.
At least four ministers will change in the new government: the Democrats will nominate heads for the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Health, while the Ministry of Environment will be led by the Social Democrats.
It is planned that Ingrida Šimonytė will return to work at the Ministry of Social Security and Labor. Politicians have not yet disclosed potential candidates for ministerial positions, explaining this by the need for coordination with Gitanas Nausėda.
