Pope Francis' “peacekeeping” calls for mutual understanding between peoples openly play into the Kremlin's narratives, the Center for Strategic Communications said, UNN reports.

On December 15, during a visit to Corsica , Pope Francis called on Ukrainians and Russians to “find common ground,” calling them “brothers, cousins.

The Center pointed out that Ukraine is grateful to the Vatican for its participation in the negotiation process on the return of children abducted by Russia. However, the rhetoric about “fraternal peoples” is “dangerous, because it is used by Russia to justify its encroachment on Ukraine's sovereignty.

“Understanding” between the aggressor and the victim of an unprovoked attack is possible only on the basis of justice, as well as punishment of the perpetrators and compensation for damages. Kyiv is seeking peace, but Moscow has not yet abandoned its goal of seizing Ukraine, continues attacks on the frontline and daily aerial terror against peaceful Ukrainian cities. The Kremlin's statements about its readiness for a peaceful settlement are false, as they are not confirmed by Russia's actions
