His presence at the Vatican presentation may provide an opportunity to discuss one of the central questions of AI safety: whether the most powerful systems can be understood well enough to be trusted.
The encyclical will be signed by the Pope on May 15, the 135th anniversary of the publication of Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Rerum novarum. The current Pope chose this name in honor of Pope Leo XIII, who led the Church during the first industrial revolution.
