On August 1, the Polish Armed Forces launch two new operations aimed at strengthening national security on the country's eastern border. The operations, codenamed “SAFE PODLASIE” and “EASTERN ZORZA,” are a response to the growing threats posed by migration pressure controlled by the Belarusian regime and Russia's continued armed aggression against Ukraine, accompanied by air attacks on its western regions, the Polish newspaper writes.

BEZPIECZNE PODLASIE

Polish army soldiers will support the actions of the Border Guard and police in countering illegal border crossings. The operations are a response to illegal migration from the east, which poses a challenge to the country's internal security. The operation will also be a continuation of the Armed Forces' assistance to the Border Guard, with up to 17,000 Polish soldiers expected to participate.

Within the framework of SAFE PODLASIA, soldiers of the 18th Iron Mechanized Division (18th MD. Major General Arkadiusz Szkutnik, commander of the 18th Armored Division, has been appointed as the commander of the operation.

EASTERN ZORZA

In parallel with Operation SAFE PODLASIE, Operation EASTERN ZORZA will begin on August 1, 2024. The purpose of this operation is to strengthen Poland's air defense system in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which has increased the risk of violating Polish airspace.

The operation will be implemented through constant monitoring of the airspace, responding to detected violations, cooperation with allies in the air and ground space, and regular training of military personnel.
