The US is negotiating with Niger to terminate a military agreement that allowed US troops to remain in the country, due to concerns over the recent military coup in Niger.

The United States is holding discussions with Niger to break the military agreement. This was announced on March 17 by Pentagon spokesman Matthew Miller, UNN reports .

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on social network X that the Nigerian authorities' publication followed "frank discussions at the highest level in Niamey.

Washington then expressed concern about the course of the National Council for the Salvation of the Fatherland formed in Niger.

Miller wrote.

The military agreement allowed American military and civilian personnel of the Ministry of Defense to stay in the country. About 1,000 military personnel remain at the US drone base.
