In Hungary, on the Tisza River, a police boat drove at high speed into a cable stretched across the river and overturned. UNN reports this with reference to local media.
The accident occurred in Hungary near Timar, above Tokaj, in the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. The ferry was waiting to depart on the other side of the river, and the ferry cable was already taut. After the collision, the vessel turned around, overturned, and then sank. Shortly after the accident, the police boat was partially raised and then pulled ashore by a tractor,
Details
There was reportedly one police officer on the boat. He survived and swam to the shore on his own.
It is noted that local ferries cross the Tisza in a unique way - not with oars, but with the help of a rope laid on the river bottom, which is only stretched during the movement. Local residents know about this, probably something the crew of the police boat did not, which eventually led to the shipwreck.
