Russia's largest oil refinery suspended operations after an attack by Ukrainian drones. Reuters reports this, citing sources, as UNN reports.

The Omsk Oil Refinery, the largest in Russia, suspended operations after an attack by Ukrainian drones. The strike on the plant, located deep in Siberia, which occurred on Monday, was one of Ukraine's longest-range attacks during the conflict, now in its fifth year. The shutdown of the plant, which is Russia's largest gasoline producer, is likely to exacerbate fuel shortages across the country

- the publication writes.

According to sources, the attack caused a fire and damage to the crude oil distillation unit CDU-10, which accounts for about 38% of the plant's production capacity (24,580 metric tons per day).

Since Tuesday, the Omsk Oil Refinery has halted sales of gasoline and diesel fuel on the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange.

Sources reported that another primary processing unit, CDU-11, was also shut down. It accounts for 37% of the plant's capacity and can process 24,000 tons of oil per day. Although the unit itself was not damaged, some network connections necessary for its operation were affected, the sources noted. They said that CDU-11, which was commissioned in 2023, could resume operations in the near future.

The Omsk Oil Refinery has two mothballed primary processing units, CDU-7 and CDU-8, each with a production capacity of 10,000 tons. Theoretically, the plant could restart them. According to information from sources, in 2024, the Omsk Oil Refinery processed 22 million tons of oil, or about 440,000 barrels per day, producing 5 million tons of gasoline and 8 million tons of diesel fuel.

Recall

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery, Russia's largest refinery, located nearly 2,500 km from the Ukrainian border. According to preliminary data, a primary oil processing unit was hit, and a fire broke out on the plant's premises.

Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh called the strike on the Omsk Refinery historic. According to her, until that day, it remained one of only two enterprises among Russia's ten largest oil refineries that had never been damaged by Ukrainian drones. The other such enterprise remains the Angarsk Petrochemical Company in the Irkutsk region.

Earlier

Fire Point co-owner and chief designer Denys Shtilerman said that a new modification of the Ukrainian long-range drone FP-1 was used during the attack on the Omsk Refinery. On his X page, he succinctly wrote: "The Omsk Refinery welcomes the new FP1!".
