Not born for war. Kyrylo Kernes explains why he left Ukraine

Kyrylo Kernes, the son of former Kharkiv mayor Gennadiy Kernes and a member of the Kharkiv Regional Council, said he fled the war abroad because he was not born for war. He said that after the start of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, he stayed with his children in Kharkiv for only a week, UNN writes.

"I didn't want to leave until the last moment, but I realized that I needed a sober mind. Our work is creative. There are people who were born to fight. And there are people who were born to build, create and help. I consider myself one of those people who help and create," Kernes said in an interview with journalist Dmytro Gordon.

Even if we imagine for a second that Kyrylo Kernes was not born for war, as he claims, there are many areas in which a healthy male MP could be useful even without a weapon in his hands. One of the most important is volunteering. For some reason, the fugitive MP did not go to prepare food for Kharkiv residents or rebuild their homes destroyed by Russian missiles, did not deliver cars from abroad, having reasons to leave, or search for medicines and equipment for military doctors. He was only interested in his own interests.

In particular, he claims that it is safer for him to fulfill his parliamentary duties from Germany. However, it is still unclear how he fulfills them while sitting abroad. After all, appearing via video link with the regional council to make a statement is far from being a deputy. Rather, it suggests that he is using his deputy position for his own purposes, including for personal PR.

Explaining his decision to flee Ukraine to the media, he changed his story several times.

After the version that he was a creative person, not born for war, Kyrylo Kernes began to say that he was worried about the safety of his children - daughter Kira and son Luka.

In another interview, the regional council deputy said that he went to collect some evidence and investigate something. So, while Ukraine is at war with Russia, and the best soldiers are dying at the front, Kyrylo Kernes is walking around a German hospital collecting some evidence? It would be fair to say here that Kernes has not provided anyone with the "evidence" that he has allegedly been collecting all this time about the events of three years ago, which are definitely not relevant while the country is being torn apart by a sick neighbor. That is, this is an illusion created by himself and, apparently, in which he believed.

According to the third version, someone threatened him, so he fled for his own safety. It is noteworthy that Kernes Jr. no longer mentions children in this context. At the same time, there is no statement from him to law enforcement about the threats.

Psychologist Svitlana Hrygel says that such a confusion of versions and opinions of Kyrylo Kernes indicates that he is hiding something.

"This can hardly be a sign of uncertainty. Rather, it is about concealing some true reasons for leaving," she said in an exclusive comment to UNN.

She also believes that with such contradictions, Kyrylo Kernes is also trying to draw attention to his personality. According to the psychologist, providing a variety of contradictory information makes people more interested, indignant, and has different emotions, feelings, even negative ones, but it all attracts attention.

"These are narcissistic manifestations of personality, where a person wants to take some kind of position. Why they need it is, again, another question. Most of the people who do this are self-confident or cunning, because you can't get far without cunning," the psychologist said.

It is worth noting that Kyrylo Kernes's version of his escape to Germany is not the only one that is controversial, but that is another story.
