From more than 2.3 million images created by National Geographic photographers working on all continents, 20 were selected to be featured in the 2024 images.
This year's retrospective shows several important and difficult moments to capture.
The collection covers a variety of areas of life on the planet, from the first shot of an emperor penguin chick jumping into the ocean from a height of 50 feet to the filming of 100 marriages during an eclipse.
