According to the newspaper, the wave of student activism was triggered by the detention of 108 people by police during the dispersal of a tent camp at Columbia University in New York on April 19. As a result, hundreds of students have been arrested across the country over the past week.
118 people were detained during the dispersal of a tent camp at Emerson College (Boston, Massachusetts), 102 more at Northeastern University (Boston), and 93 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Dozens more students were detained at the University of Texas, Indiana University (Bloomington), Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia), and Arizona State University. Detentions also took place at Princeton, Yale, New York University, the University of Minnesota, and the Ohio State University.
