The situation at the front in Ukraine is extremely difficult, especially in the east. And despite the fact that the front line has not moved significantly, Ukrainians were able to inflict heavy losses on the Russian invaders, both in personnel and in terms of reduced combat capabilities. This was stated on Monday during a press conference by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, UNN reports .

We see intense fighting. This is an extremely difficult situation on the front line, especially in the east, we see a high number of casualties. And some of the most intense fighting we've seen throughout the war has actually taken place in the last few weeks and a few months. This is happening at a time when the front line has not moved significantly. So I think we need to distinguish between the fact that the front line is not moving that much and the fact that there is actually very heavy fighting going on,

Stoltenberg said.

At the same time, he noted that achievements are not only measured in square meters.

Again, we are impressed by the bravery, the competence of the Ukrainian forces, and their ability to actually strike behind the Russian lines, deep into Russian-controlled territory. And, of course, military achievements can be partly measured in square meters, but also in the losses you can inflict on the enemy. And yes, the front line has not moved that much. And of course, we would like them to liberate as much territory as possible as soon as possible. But, despite the fact that the front line has not moved, Ukrainians were able to inflict heavy losses on the Russian invaders, both in terms of personnel and losses, and in terms of reduced combat capabilities. So, these are significant achievements, as well as the opportunity to throw the Black Sea Fleet back from large parts of the Black Sea,

said the NATO Secretary General.

Thus, in his words, "this remains an important military achievement".

To recap,

NATO will discuss Russia's actions and is going to agree on recommendations for reforms in Ukraine on its way to membership.
