American actor Michael Emmett Walsh died on Tuesday, March 19, his manager Sandy Joseph confirmed. On Tuesday, he suffered a cardiac arrest in a hospital in the US state of Vermont.

Emmett Walsh has brought his unique face and strange presence to more than 100 films, including Blood Simple, Blade Runner, Straight Time and others.

Born in New York City in 1935, the actor made his feature film debut in 1969 in the musical Alice's Restaurant. He also starred in the western film Little Big Man (1970) with Dustin Hoffman, the comedy How's It Going, Doc (1972) with Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand, the comedy There's No Shame in Being Rich (1979) with Steve Martin, and the prison drama Brubaker (1980) with Robert Redford.

Over the course of his long and prolific career, Walsh has worked with some of the greatest actors, appearing on screen with Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Harrison Ford, Steve Martin, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 1982, director Ridley Scott put him in front of the camera alongside Harrison Ford as a hardened police officer for the sci-fi thriller Blade Runner.

Walsh also participated in the directorial debut of Ethan and Joel Coen. In the movie "Simple Blood" (1984), he played the role of an unscrupulous private detective. This role earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
