Mercedes minibus slides into a ditch in Volyn: driver killed, 5 people injured

A fatal traffic accident took the life of a driver and hospitalized five passengers in Volyn region this morning, the regional police department and the Patrol Police of Ukraine reported, UNN reports.

The accident occurred on the road near the village of Palche, Lutsk district. 

According to preliminary information, the driver of a Mercedes Sprinter minibus lost control, causing the vehicle to slide into a ditch and collide with a tree. 

"As a result of the accident, the driver died on the spot, five other people were injured, and the victims were taken to the hospital," the police said.

All relevant services are working at the scene.

Investigators initiated criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"Recalling such incidents, it is worth thinking about what consequences can arise if you neglect basic safety rules: speeding, driving while tired or being distracted by your phone. Drivers, remember: the road does not forgive carelessness. Your attentiveness, compliance with the speed limit and traffic rules is not only a duty, but also the best way to protect yourself, your passengers and all road users. Take care of yourself, your loved ones, and the lives of others on the road," the patrol police emphasized.
