Today, on March 23, meteorologists all over the world celebrate their professional holiday, UNN reports.

The event was launched in honor of the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization on March 23, 1950.

Since ancient times, people have been looking for various ways to predict the weather. They have come down to us in the form of folk signs. The term "meteorology" was coined by the ancient Greek scientist and philosopher Aristotle.

For a long time, meteorology was a descriptive science. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Italian scientist Galileo Galilei designed a thermoscope that showed temperature changes. The design of the device was quite primitive: it had no scale, and there were no units of measurement. Nevertheless, the thermoscope became the prototype of modern thermometers. In 1643, Galileo's student Evangelista Torricelli made the first barometer.

Astronomer Edmundo Galileo developed a theory of regional wind systems based on the study of trade winds and monsoons.

In 1724, Gabriel Fahrenheit introduced his temperature scale, and in 1742, the Anders Celsius scale appeared. In 1806, the Irish hydrographer Francis Beaufort proposed a scale for measuring wind speed.

In 1817, German geographer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt published the first temperature map, and his research laid the foundation for a new science -  climatology. Many countries began to establish meteorological services.

The first weather forecast for the next day was published in 1861 in the British newspaper The Times. Its author was the head of the meteorological department, Vice Admiral Robert Fitzroy,

In 1963, the World Weather Service was established.

The highest temperature was recorded in California on July 10, 1913 - 56.7°C, and the lowest on July 21, 1983 -  in Antarctica - -89.2°C.

Atheists also celebrate their holiday today. The term "atheism" first appeared in medieval Europe more than 400 years ago.

Today, there are more than four thousand religions in the world, and almost every one of them is associated with holidays and rituals.

Although atheists do not believe in God, they also chose a special day to create Atheist Day to honor the freedom of thought and expression that is an important aspect of atheism.

Today is also the Day of the beautiful look

This event is primarily a professional day for eye and eyebrow specialists - those people who skillfully complete our look.

According to the church calendar, today is the day of remembrance of St. Nikon and his 199 disciples.

The man lived in the third century, his father was a pagan and his mother a Christian.

Nikon served in the army, once during a battle he was surrounded, began to pray and managed to survive.

After that, the man converted to Christianity and later became a monk and preacher. He gained many followers.

During the intensification of the persecution of Christians, Nikon and his disciples were captured, tortured for a long time and brutally, and then executed.

Nikon, Vasily, and Lydia celebrate their name days on March 23.
