Dmitry Peskov denied information about Asma al-Assad's plans to divorce Bashar al-Assad and leave Russia. The British Foreign Office earlier said that the wife of the former Syrian president was banned from entering the UK.

The Kremlin has said that the wife of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Asma al-Assad, has no plans to divorce, UNN reports , citing BBC.

The Turkish media speculated that Asma al-Assad wanted to end her marriage and leave Russia, where she and her husband had been granted asylum after a coalition of rebels overthrew the former president's regime and took control of Damascus.

However, Mr. Peskov denied this information.

He also denied reports that Assad was restricted in Moscow and that his property was frozen.

Russia has been a staunch ally of the Assad regime and offered military support during the civil war. But reports in the Turkish media suggest that the Assads are living under severe restrictions in the Russian capital, and that the former first lady of Syria has filed for divorce and wants to return to London, where she was born.

Assad's wife has dual Syrian-British citizenship, but the British Foreign Secretary has previously stated that she will not be allowed to return to Britain.

"I want it to be confirmed that she is a sanctioned person and she is not welcome here in the UK," said David Lammy.

He added that he would do "everything in my power" to ensure that no member of the Assad family "has a place in the UK.

In a statement attributed to Bashar al-Assad last week, he said he never intended to flee Syria, but was flown from a Russian military base at Moscow's request.

Recall

Earlier, UNN wrotet hat Asma al-Assad filed a request to a Russian court for permission to leave Moscow and plans to divorce her husband. Also, according to media reports, the former Syrian dictator is under strict surveillance in Russia, and his assets are frozen.
